How do you activate the Riddler's challenges in Batman: Arkham City?

Okay, a bit of a silly question here, please forgive me. I just got Batman: Arkham City, and am about 10 minutes into it. I have a problem, I can`t seem to open the Riddler`s challenge clues, the ones that are spread out all over Arkham City. They all seem to be covered by a little cage-like thing, how do I get these clues out of the cage so I can enjoy the Riddler`s challenges? the ones in the cages are often connected to question mark buttons. if you go into detective mode you can usually follow a trail from the cage to the question marks. the question marks are the tricky parts though. they can also be opened up with those circle question mark pads on the ground. if you see these you must step on all of them without touching ground which can be done with the line launcher but some require other ways. most of those riddler trophies you cant get until you get new gadgets so it may be easier to ignore them until you beat the game.

If you go into detective mode, you will find a wire leading to a pressure pad or a question mark. For the pressure pad, step on it and grab the trophy with the bat claw. For the question mark, you have to hit it with a batarang. If there are multiple question marks, you have to hit one and quickly use the remote control batarang and hit the other.
